The Owens Corning Roofing Warranty Tiers

There is no single "Owens Corning warranty". There are three levels, and a roof only gets the higher ones if it is built with the right combination of Owens Corning components. Owens Corning publishes the full terms and registration details on the Owens Corning roofing site, and F-Wave documents its synthetic shingle coverage on the F-Wave warranty page. Precision Exteriors is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor — Owens Corning's highest contractor tier.

1. Standard shingle limited warranty

This comes with the product itself on any Owens Corning roof. It covers manufacturing defects in the shingles under the terms printed on the shingle wrapper and the warranty document. No upgrade, no registration by us.

2. System Protection

Available from Owens Corning Preferred or Platinum Preferred contractors. It requires Owens Corning shingles plus three qualifying accessories, and gives 50-year non-prorated material coverage. It carries no workmanship coverage.

3. Platinum Protection

Only Platinum Preferred contractors can offer this tier. It is an optional upgrade the homeowner pays for — it is never automatic and never included by default. A roof that is not built to the required spec cannot receive it at all.

Required components: Owens Corning shingles, synthetic underlayment, and Hip & Ridge shingles, plus any two of the following three — Ice & Water Barrier, Starter Shingles, or VentSure Ventilation.

We'll tell you up front whether the roof we're quoting qualifies for Platinum Protection, what the upgrade costs, and what you'd have instead if you decide against it.

How the Independent Directorii Guarantee Works

Directorii is an independent third-party platform that lists and guarantees contractors. Precision Exteriors is a Directorii-listed contractor. The guarantee comes from Directorii, not from us — and it only exists if the project is registered with them.

Three conditions must be met for any tier of coverage:

• The contractor must be listed on Directorii at the time of contract.
• The homeowner must have a Directorii user account at the time of contract.
• The project must be registered by the homeowner or the contractor at Directorii.com.

Tier 1 — $30,000

• • Deposit protection
• • Contractor abandonment or fraud
• • Contractor bankruptcy

Available once the three eligibility conditions above are met.

Tier 2 — $250,000 (optional upgrade)

• • Workmanship issues
• • Building-code and manufacturer non-compliance
• • Material or product defects

An optional upgrade the homeowner takes once there is a signed contract. It is not automatic and not included with your project.

The Manufacturer-First Rule on Product Defects

For material or product defect claims under the $250,000 tier, you must contact the product manufacturer first. Directorii covers the claim only if the manufacturer wrongly denies it, or does not respond within 60 days.

How to Set It Up

Create a Directorii user account at Directorii.com before you sign, make sure the project is registered there, and decide whether you want the optional $250,000 upgrade once your contract is signed. We'll walk you through each step — but the account, the registration and the upgrade decision are yours to make.

Who actually pays if something goes wrong

Two of these six are ours to deliver and four are not. We would rather you knew which is which now than found out at claim time.

Ice barriers: your county decides, not us

Section R905.1.2 of the residential code requires an ice barrier at the eaves in areas with a history of ice forming there and backing water up under the roof covering. Where it applies, it must run from the lowest edge of the roof to at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall line, and on roofs pitched 8:12 or steeper, at least 36 inches measured up the slope. Whether it applies to your house is not something the code decides by climate — each jurisdiction designates it in its own criteria table. We will tell you what your county requires before we quote, and we will not sell you one you do not need.
