A wood fence gives your property a warmth and character that no other material matches. Cedar's natural reddish tone, a crisp white-painted picket fence, a rustic board-and-batten design — wood gives you options to create exactly the look you want. It does need periodic maintenance — staining or painting every 3-5 years — but many homeowners prefer the natural look and the ability to change colors whenever they want.

Signs a Wood Fence Is Right for You

Choose wood if aesthetics are the priority. If you want a specific color or finish that matches your home, wood takes any stain or paint. If you're building a Privacy Fence and prefer a natural look over vinyl, wood delivers it. If budget matters for large properties, pressure-treated pine is very cost-competitive.

If maintenance isn't for you, Vinyl Fence offers similar privacy without upkeep. For a metal look, Aluminum Fence works well. For the lowest cost across large areas, Chain Link Fence is the most affordable.

    Our Wood Fence Options

Western Red Cedar is our premium wood — naturally resistant to insects and decay, beautiful grain, and it takes stain or paint beautifully. It can also be left unfinished to weather to a natural silver-gray. Pressure-treated southern yellow pine is the value option — strong, affordable, and preserved against rot and insects. We also work with white oak and other species for custom projects.

Styles include standard privacy (tight board-on-board or dog-ear), shadow-box (semi-private with boards alternating on each side), picket (open, 3-4 foot), board-and-batten (vertical boards with narrow battens covering joints), and horizontal slat (modern clean-line look).

Posts are 4x4 or 6x6 pressure-treated set in concrete. We use ground-contact rated lumber for any wood touching or near the soil — this is where most wood fence failures start. Cheap fences use above-ground rated posts, which rot at the base within a few years on the Eastern Shore.

For pool areas, we build wood Pool Fence designs that meet code with proper height and self-latching gates.

Wood Fencing for Cambridge & Eastern Shore

Wood fencing on the Eastern Shore needs attention to moisture. Our humidity keeps wood damp and promotes mold, mildew, and accelerated decay. Ground contact is the weak point — posts rot from the bottom up if not properly rated and treated. Salt air near the water breaks down finishes faster. We use stainless steel or coated fasteners, ground-contact rated posts, and recommend quality stains with UV and mildew protection. We've built wood fences across Cambridge, Salisbury, Easton, and throughout the Eastern Shore.
